What is Discoid Eczema? Why Should I Care?
Discoid Eczema is a very unusual form of Eczema.
Also called Nummular Dermatitis and occasionally Gravitational Eczema, it may occur in people
of all ages, from young to old.
Discoid Eczema is easy to identify. The
outbreaks on the skin take the form of reddish circular areas of rash. The word
"nummular" comes from the phrase Latina nummus. This means coin, and it refers to these flat,
circular plaques of eczema.

More cases of Discoid Eczema are reported during
winter months, when the atmosphere is drier and humidity is
lower.
Discoid Eczema is incredibly itchy and extremely
uncomfortable... Like most forms of Eczema, it is difficult to know the precise cause
of this type of outbreak.
In addition, under normal circumstances Discoid
Eczema does not run in families and is not passed down from generation to generation. Even
so, it is a very persistent, lingering, chronic, and long-term
problem.
